Graceland Cemetery - Post #1

For whatever reason, cemeteries fascinate me--and the Graceland Cemetery in Chicago is no exception. I lived near there for a couple of years and had always intended to visit. Sometimes I feel wracked with shame that I've lived in Chicago for ten years and haven't visited many of the touristy sites.

One pretty October day in 2012 I decided to check out the cemetery and took my camera. Graceland was gorgeous. Mausoleums line its outer edges in places, and within is like a mini-world. Two- and three-story columns, a statue of a knight--there's even a small pyramid complete with a sphinx. (This is also the cemetery that holds the infamous Dexter, the statue with eyes you can supposedly look into and see your death.)

I edited the photographs to black and white to better show off the graves themselves. These graves are works of art.
